Care and Feeding of the AR-15
The AR-15 family of rifles has been around for a half century in both civilian semi auto and military full auto configurations. It is the "Barbie Doll" of firearms, with a nearly infinite variety of options, upgrades, and calibers. It is also one of the very best options for home defense, hunting, and target shooting. Contrary to the original, catastrophically absurd claim in the early days of Viet Nam that it "never needs cleaning", the AR-15 absolutely needs regular care and maintenance to function properly.
This is a short, classroom only course from a certified AR-15 / M-16 Armorer with over 30 years of operational, teaching, and competitive experience that covers useful, non gunsmith level procedures of cleaning, maintenance, and care for the AR-15. Feel free to bring your AR to get it cleaned up and ready to go with supplied products, but bring your own cleaning supplies for comparison.
Following the cleaning portion of class, we will open up the floor for discussion of upgrades, add ons, sighting options, lights, magazines, ammunition, myths, etcetera. Students will leave with small samples of quality lubricants to take home.
The Four Firearms Handling Rules are emphasized at all times:
1. Always treat a firearm as if it were loaded
2. Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are on target and have made the decision to shoot
4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
ITEMS TO BRING:
AR-15 rifle in any caliber, if desired. NOTE: Illinois law currently does not allow select fire weapons or suppressors except for specifically exempted military and law enforcement weapons.
Personal cleaning and maintenance products for comparison
***NO RIFLE AMMUNITION OR MAGAZINES ALLOWED IN CLASSROOM***
